5 months out...ended up in the E.R.

I'm five months out and I think I have done ok... I've lost 80lbs so far.  Down to a size 16 from a 26.. I def. can not complain! lol

However, Tuesday night I went into the ER with horriably pain in my chest and back.. my right arm was tingling and eventually it cramped up and froze that way for a few mintues.  I thought " omg I lost 80lbs and NOW i'm having a stroke?!"  Thank God that wasn't the case.. I can't explain the hand incident..but the pain was cause from gal stones and now I have to have my gal bladder removed.  I know this is somewhat typical after bariatric surgery.  Has anyone had it done??  I have two toddlers at home and I'm curious about the recovery.

Sorry to hear this, I haven't had to deal with it but I work in a hospital and have taken care of a couple people that have had theirs removed and one lady said her recovery was worse that child birth.... haven't experienced that either so I can't compare it. Good luck, I'm sure everything will go fine.

I've had two c-sections, my appendix and obviously the RNY.  So far none of them really got me done too bad.  I heard they do in Lap now so that should make it easier for recovery.. who knows.  I'll find out more on the 9th when I see my srugeon.

I had Gal stones when I was 19 and had to have mine taken out. In my opinion that surgery wasn't as bad as my RNY or any other surgery I have had. You recover pretty quick and will be just fine. Good luck to you and take care.

 Yes, this is typical after RNY which is usually why the surgeon will remove your gallbladder while they are doing the WLS.  I'm surprised to hear they left it in.  

I had my gallbladder removed before my WLS and it was very easy, I was back to normal within 2 days.  You should be fine, good luck!  I'm sorry you are going through this, my gallbladder attacks were horrible and I lived with them for WAY too long, I should have had the stupid thing out years before.

I talked to my Dr. about this also and asked why don't they just remove the gallbladder at the same time as the RNY - saves everyone time, money and recovery pain.  Well insurance wont cover it if nothing is wrong with it... So if your gal bladder is fine at the time of RNY, unless you pay for the difference, they wont take it out unless they notice any discoloration or stones... I'm hoping to have my RNY done in Jan and I'm almost hoping there is 1 gallstone so they remove it so I don't have to go threw it later.

I  asked my doc and I was told that they wont remove it unless there is something wrong or your ultrsound came back abnormal......
